Most Drivers Don't Know What to Do When They See a Police Car on the Side of the Road

The Move Over laws are designed to help protect those who must conduct their business on the side of busy roadways. Unfortunately, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund reports that 150 police officers in the last 20 years have lost their lives being struck by motorists who did not give these law enforcement officials enough room.

The National Safety Commission sponsored a national poll that revealed startling evidence how little drivers are aware of these laws. Over 70 percent of US drivers never even heard about the Move Over laws, so how could they be expected to know what to do on the roads? The law states drivers must slow down and move safely to another lane to give officers a safe distance to work.

It is our hope here at Bob Allen to make more drivers of this region aware about the state's Move Over law to protect our officers.
